I know I'm guilty of spending too much time online, whether on my computer or my phone. Last week, we took a day to head to the snow and since there wasn't great coverage, I put my phone in airplane mode. It was amazing! I didn't have the urge to look at emails or mindlessly scroll. ⁠

Secret...I didn't miss anything! ⁠

About a month ago, I started implementing social media free Sundays, thanks to the inspiration of my friend @notyourfatherslawyer who has been practicing this for a lot longer. ⁠

Yes, you are seeing a post from me on a Sunday, BUT I scheduled it. I'm not scrolling through my phone today. Instead, I'm spending time with my family, catching up on my book reading, taking a long walk, cooking a big Sunday meal, enjoying a glass (or 2) of wine and being fully present. ⁠

When I first tried this, it felt amazing and honestly, I was ready to do it everyday, but we know that's not "good for the algorithm." I have been scrolling less lately though and find that it lightens who I am and my intentions.⁠

If you find I'm quieter lately here on the 'gram, that's why...I'm just giving myself space for living life intentionally and present.

I was sharing my career story the other day with someone and when I was done, she said that she loved that the career I have now wasn't forced and that must be why I love it so much. ⁠

I had never thought about it that way.⁠

I had an 18 year corporate aviation career and went full-time after college because it provided me with a salary and benefits. I didn't have to look elsewhere. I continued to make money, get paid to move around to new cities, travel the country...⁠

When given the opportunity to do something new, I tried different things.⁠
⁠
I now recognize that one of the big reasons so many of us experience burnout and are unfulfilled from our jobs is because we feel forced to do them, but when presented with the opportunity, we are able to chase our dreams and find something we love.⁠

I know we all want everything to happen quickly, especially when trying to land an interview or press, but more often than not, things don't happen on the first pitch. ⁠
⁠
Follow up is KEY! ⁠
⁠
The art of the follow up is not only key to landing press but it has to do with the way you follow up as well. ⁠
⁠
I like to give a bit of room between my pitch and follow ups...at least one to three weeks. I am also polite in my message and my last follow up always informs the recipient that this is the last time I'll be reaching out. ⁠
⁠
Lately, I've been receiving follow ups from one podcast pitching company in which the follow up contains one word. A random one word follow up that makes no sense at all. ⁠
⁠
It infuriates me. Why? Because not only is it taking up space in my inbox but there is an actual human being who is paying for this $hit.⁠
⁠
One of the emails said, "Bing!". ⁠
⁠
Maybe this is their way of trying to bump their own message up in my inbox, but this isn't a Facebook group. ⁠
⁠
Remember to follow up, don't get discouraged and write something more authentic than a single word that makes no sense at all!⁠
⁠

I research in my business every single day...my clients and those I'm pitching to. It's how I can craft a personalized pitch.⁠

Some might call it stalking, I call it researching!⁠
